Tip #57: Complement the lack of Compliments

In life you will come across people who will over-shower you with compliments and people who won’t even comment positively on unemotional things like how clean your house is, or what a nice bracelet you have. Both examples are extremes – and just like all extremes, there is a unique meeting point.

On a slightly different note, some would say “Why would you even need compliments, in the first place? Isn’t it a sign of insecurity in itself to seek compliments from others?” Yes, it may as well be in some cases but we’re not talking about the receiving end. I guess what the moral of the tip is…

“…when you find yourself in front of people who find it hard to even ask a mere question about your life with genuine interest and feedback positively on things you have achieved rightly so, then it may be time to consider: friend or foe?”

And, more importantly…

“…surround yourself with people who make you feel good without having to hear constant criticism or forced affirmations.”

Thought about so many times. Discovered in a variety of relationships throughout many years of my life (2004 – ongoing).
